Condition of six-month-old baby fed poison worsened

The six-month old baby boy who was on Thursday morning fed a poisonous substance allegedly by his mother, has been rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), on Monday, after his condition worsened, says the police. The 24-year-old mother and the eight year-old daughter, remain patients at the Linden Hospital Complex.

On Thursday, the mother and the two children, were rushed to LHC, by a neighbour after she allegedly informed them that she drank a poisonous substance and gave it to the two children to drink as well. The incident occurred in the Wisroc community. This media house was informed that the mother has been experiencing issues in her relationship, with the children’s father. On the day in question, they had an argument over his cell phone.

According to a reliable medical source, the mother has been experiencing post-partum depression. Her depressed state was further fueled by the issues she was experiencing in her relationship.

Postpartum depression, also called postnatal depression, is a type of mood disorder associated with childbirth. Symptoms may include extreme sadness, low energy, anxiety, crying episodes, irritability, and changes in sleeping or eating patterns.
