A remanded prisoner is nursing chop wounds and is warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital Complex, after he was chopped about his body by another prisoner on remand at the Lusignan Prison. He has been identified as Kaley Roberts, age 26 of Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden. Enquiries disclosed that another prisoner, Gerald Jones of Middle Walk Buxton, is housed in Holding Bay 2 and Robert’s in Holding Bay , when Jones allegedly left his Holding Bay and went to that of Roberts during which they had a heated argument and a fight ensued.
Jones who was armed with an improvised cutlass fired several chops to Robert’s during which he (Roberts) received a wound to his right hand, Roberts who was armed with an improvised ice picker subsequently dealt Jones serveral stabs to his chest.
They were both extracted from the Prison and taken to the infirmary for medical attention during which Roberts was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further treatment.
He remains a patient at the said hospital and his condition is listed as stable.
The Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service have since launched an investigation.
