With the 2022 Linden Regatta being a huge success, organizers have announced that the event will be an annual one. On Sunday hundreds of patrons converged the environs of the Kara Kara Blue Lakes to witness the electrifying performances from Guyana’s top race boat drivers. The event saw the participation of more than six boats, particularly from Bartica competing for cash and other prizes. Neil Gonsalves emerged winner of the Formula 1 race. Other competitors include Dave Scott, Clarence and Belle. In addition to the boat races, Kayaking races and camping activities also occurred.
The event which was a collaboration between New Era Entertainment, Team Mohammed’s, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the Cricket Carnival Committee, saw the attendance of His Excellency President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and several Government Ministers.
President Ali expressed satisfaction with the way the event was executed and the maximum support it received from persons from all across Guyana. He also spoke about the significance of Guyana’s tourism package and the importance of sport in its development.
“I am very pleased with the turn out here and this is just the initial stage of building a masterpiece of a tourism product. President Ali said the Kara Kara Blue Lake is “one of the most beautiful venues for regattas in any of the regions and that it has all the ingredients to be made into a high-end luxury resort or even a Sandals.” In this regard, the government will be investing in the lake to transform it into a resort.
A spokesperson from New Era related that the event will be held annually as was done years ago in Linden, more so with the government’s plans to transform the Kara Kara Blue Lakes as one of Linden’s and by extension, Guyana’s hottest tourism’s destination.
