Police are investigating the alleged drowning of a 18-month-old toddler of Potsville Kwakwani, who has been identified as Orinda August. The incident occurred between 17:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs, Sunday evening.
Enquiries disclosed that the mother Amanda Wills left the deceased at home in the company of her other children – a 7-year-old male and a 15-year-old female – and went to attend a funeral.
The sister was upstairs with the deceased while her brother was downstairs playing when he later went upstairs to check on his siblings.
Upon checking he saw his big sister sleeping. He made further checks and discovered the deceased lying head down in a bucket of water.
The deceased was pulled out by her brother who then raised an alarm. The deceased was rushed to the Kwakwani Hospital Complex and was pronounced dead on arrival.
No marks of violence were seen on the exposed part of the body. No foul play suspected. Investigation continuing.
