Linden’s economy already benefiting from Linden to Mabura road construction

Linden and other communities in Region 10 are already reaping economic benefits from the Linden to Mabura road construction project that has commenced. Thus far, scores of residents from Linden and other outlying communities, have been employed to fit various positions and various small businesses in the town, have been contracted to provide services such as accommodation, catering, transportation amongst others to the company. Construction materials are also being purchased from businesses in Linden. Many skilled and unskilled residents are being recruited to full various positions such as truck drivers and heavy duty operators.

A spokesperson for the company said that the project is currently on tract with its timeline to completion. INFO 10 spoke with one employee who said he and others are pleased with the work environment. “We are given meals, everything is ok so far, the employment process was simple and everything is going good so far,” he said.

The. $US190 million contract was inked for the first phase, to be executed by Brazilian company, Construtora Queiroz Galvao S.A. The all-weather road will be 121 kilometres long and 7.2 metres wide with a two- lane carriageway. It will feature a shared cycle and pedestrian lane measuring 2 metres wide, along with 10 bus stops outfitted with ramps for persons with disabilities. A number of bridges and culverts will be replaced. Some 123 lights will also be installed along with nine vehicle rest areas.

At the sod turning ceremony, Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, spoke of the limitless economic opportunities across various sectors that will benefit Linden. The town, which has always been dubbed the gateway to the interior, will see avenues for growth in agriculture, trade, tourism and mining.

The road is expected to triple the market that farmers and manufacturers are used to.

Residents of Linden are encouraged to position themselves for the benefits that will be derived upon completion of the road.
