Seven Region 10 students awarded with LFU scholarships

The beneficiaries of the SFS

Seven students residing in Region 10 communities were awarded the Sammy David scholarship for success (SFS), from Linden Fund USA.

‭The scholarship programme was named in honor of the late founding ‬member and longtime LFU Board member, Eustace “Sammy” David in 2020. Now known by ‭its official name, ‭Eustace “Sammy” David Scholarship for Success (‭SfS‭) programme, it supports ‬‬‬one student per year from each of the seven secondary schools in Linden and nearby Kwakwani (Region 10), for the course of their five years of secondary school education (Grades 7-11).

The ‭SfS‬ Programme was launched in the 2018-2019 school year as a pilot initiative targeting high school students and was supported by three original scholarships: William & Viola Wright Scholarship, Viola Rutherford Scholarship, and Halley Family Scholarship. LFU expresses gratitude to the inaugural donor families and the other individuals who came on board from year two onwards, supporting the ‭SfS‬ programme to the present 2021-2022 school year. “We are grateful for the combined contributions that support our scholarship students, with invaluable assistance from the School Welfare Department of the Ministry of Education, Region 10 Department.

To date, there are five cohorts representing a total of 35 awardees in the programme. Each cohort is typically welcomed into the programme in the first school term.
