Region 10 records second suicide in two weeks

The Upper Demerara-Berbice Region (Region 10), has recorded another alleged suicide in the span of two weeks. The latest victim is 21-year-old Akeem Brisport, of Oronoque Drive, Retrieve, Linden. He allegedly committed the act on Thursday morning between 05:30 hrs and 06:00 hrs.

According to a police report, the mother of the deceased, who lives in the upper flat of the home, was awaken by her son who said, “Ah fed up, a going and hang mah self.”. She said she answered him from her bed but never checked to see what was going on downstairs. The mother relayed to the police that she told him to go and read his Bible and not to give up on life and went back to sleep. Around 06:30 hrs, the mother was awaken by an unknown taxi driver, who  brought to her attention that her son was hanging from a rope under the house. The police was later summoned. Checks were made and marks of violence were only seen around his neck. On the 22^nd December, an eight-year-old boy from Amelia’s Ward Linden, was also found hanging from a jersey at the back of his yard.
