A Linden mechanic is now dead after a tire he was pumping air in, exploded on his neck and face. He died on impact according to his co-workers. The freak accident occurred at the Johnson Vulcanizing Shop at Kara Kara. Employees of the Vulcanizing shop said, 20-year-old Joshown Goddard of Self-Help Housing Scheme, Amelia’s Ward, Linden was attending to a heavy-duty tire, when they heard an explosion. Upon checking, Goddard was seen lying on the ground with his neck and face slashed.
The police were alerted, and his body was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead. His mother, Mitchelle Goddard, said she heard the news only moments before talking to her son. “We were talking whole morning, whole morning we messaging, oh God meh baby gone.” Goddard was said to be working at the vulcanizing shop for a few years. His coworkers suspected that he over pumped the tire and it exploded. Goddard was not wearing any safety gear at the time. Police and the Labour Department are investigating the accident.
