For Teacher’s Week, the Department of Education, Region 10, showed appreciation to the teachers of Region 10 by hosting a celebratory ceremony and presenting tokens of appreciation to all 881 teachers teaching at schools in the Region 10 Education District.

The activity was held on Thursday at the Department of Education and saw head teachers receiving tokens on behalf of the various schools they represented. The event was held under the theme, ‘Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery’, and aimed at celebrating and showing appreciation for the honourable work teachers do in moulding the nation’s children. To ensure social distancing, the activity was divided into three segments- Nursery, Primary and Secondary.

Acting Regional Executive Officer, Lashanna Anderson, in her address, said the Department of Education recognises teachers’ efforts, especially during this pandemic. She said it was designed to highlight the values placed on teachers. “The Department of Education recognises the pivotal role that teachers play in the region’s economic development by providing education that enhances the quality of life for the citizens of this region, it is for this reason that the department joins with the world in celebrating you, our precious teachers.

Their significance, she said, cannot be downplayed and it is behind this background that the department planned this event, since teachers are generally undervalued. Their tireless efforts were magnified during the pandemic, when teachers had to keep their students occupied, using ingenuous techniques. “Recognition is also given to you for your ingenuity, resourcefulness, commitment and love for the profession that you have so aptly displayed. Teachers please know that we love you and appreciate everything that you have been doing to bolster student learning, be encouraged to continue to give of your very best,” she said.

Teacher’s week was celebrated last week across the world.
