Efforts are underway to ensure the expeditious transfer of lands in Region 10 from the National Industrial & Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) which will allow for the regularization of house lots for residential and commercial use.
On the 14th January 2021, during a Cabinet Outreach to Linden, President Irfaan Ali promised to construct 1000 homes in Linden and 50 homes for young professionals by the end of 2021.
In pursuit of delivering on that promise, several top government officials met on Monday, to ensure the lands are transferred. These include Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall, Minister of Housing, Collin Croal; the Honourable Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues; Chief Executive Officer of the , Sherwyn Greaves; Chairman of NICIL , Paul Cheong; Chief Executive Officer of NICIL, Radha Krishna Sharma; Registrar of Lands, Rosalie Robertson and Manager of Surveys, Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC), Rene Duesbury.
The lands in question are located in Amelia’s Ward Linden and the government had approximated that once transferred, 4000 house lots will be developed and allocated.
